Penn Wireless Association

Special Event Stations

Eight stations, eight stories: one this December, then seven more across 2027. Each one puts a Lower Bucks County callsign in a few thousand logbooks — and gives a newer member a real reason to get on the air.

W3S — U.S. Steel Fairless Works

Saturday, December 19, 2026 · 9 AM – 9 PM Eastern

One day, one callsign

Stations run a single day (Flag Day gets the weekend), 9 AM to 9 PM Eastern, so they're easy to say yes to. Most of the 2027 dates fall on a weekday — after-school and evening slots are part of the plan.

Members operate from home

Members claim two-hour slots on the sign-up page, one operator per slot per mode (SSB, CW, Digital), so the callsign stays clear on the air. New licensee? This is the easiest way to work your first pileup.

QSL cards for everyone who works us

Each pop-culture station gets its own card, designed by the club. Work the station, send your QSL request, and the card goes out after the logs are merged.

The lineup

Flag Day plus six anniversaries worth celebrating on the air. The 1x1 callsigns are reserved for the dates below; each card below is the QSL you’ll get for working that station.

W3S — U.S. Steel Fairless Works

Levittown's opening day

The industrial engine behind Levittown. U.S. Steel's Fairless Works poured its first steel on December 11, 1952, and the thousands of workers it drew needed houses nearby — the reason Levittown was built. December is also Levittown's own opening day: the exhibit center and sample homes opened December 8, 1951. S is for steel, and for the families who built this community one shift at a time.

Friday, September 24, 2027

Forty years of the 1987 film. Inconceivable? Hardly. I is for Inigo — and for the QSL cards, which we are told will have a very good reason to exist.

W3T QSL card: Close Encounters of the Third Kind 50th anniversary, November 16, 2027

Tuesday, November 16, 2027

W3T — Close Encounters of the Third Kind

50th anniversary

Fifty years to the day after Close Encounters opened on November 16, 1977. Five notes, one callsign, and a day of trying to make contact. T is for the Third Kind.

Chasing a Penn Wireless station?

Listen for the callsign on the HF bands all day on the dates above — SSB, CW, and digital, with the heaviest activity on 20 and 40 meters. Work us on as many bands and modes as you like. QSL requests go to the club after the event; details for each station are posted here as the date gets close. Not a member yet but want a seat at the microphone? This is exactly the kind of thing we do.
